Did you know that Estes Elementary School was the location of the first elementary school in the District? In 1955, part of our current school campus, known then as Marana Elementary, opened to the growing community. In July 2001, a newly constructed Estes Elementary, named after former elementary principal, Mrs. Marjorie Estes, opened on the grounds adjacent to the old campus. Today our sprawling campus includes an amphitheater, a teaching garden, maker space, art classroom, preschool for 3 and 4-year olds, a tortoise habitat/butterfly garden, an athletic field with a running track and fitness stations, a multipurpose room/cafeteria, a library media center and three playground locations! 

“Estes has a strong culture of caring, strong relationships, and high expectations for all students. We believe we meet every student where they are at when they arrive on our campus. Our Title 1 and 21st CCLC programming provide daily enrichment, intervention, and parent opportunities before, during, and after school,” said principal Michelle Bergesen . 

Support staff and teachers are the most valuable resources for students. In addition to our amazing teachers, Estes has two Counselors, five Reading/Math Specialists, a Gifted Teacher, and a 21st CCLC Coordinator. All support and certified staff receive Capturing Kids’ Hearts training that strengthens the relationships with our parent partners, staff, and most importantly, our students. 

“We are committed to providing a safe, loving, and challenging learning experience,” Mrs. Bergesen said. “Through our passionate teaching and innovative instruction, we continually set the foundation for our students to be empowered learners who will lead at Estes and in their future years well beyond elementary school.”
