- Marana Middle School, completed in 1991
- Marana High School: graduated Class of 1995
Looking back, my time in Marana Unified School District played a major role in shaping who I am today. Some of my fondest memories come from playing sports, building friendships, and being part of a community that took pride in representing Marana, whether on the field, in the classroom, or at school events. That strong sense of belonging has stayed with me throughout my life.
While I enjoyed all of my classes, one that really stands out is marching band with Mr. McDevitt in middle school. It was an experience that combined discipline, teamwork, and creativity in a way that left a lasting impression. I was also fortunate to have many influential teachers and mentors along the way, Sue Lemke, John McDevitt, Robin Coxon, Jim Rex, Dino Nada, Kim Babeu, Mike Dyer, Larry Gray, Mr. Miller, and Mitch Elsperger, who encouraged me to be my best and led by example every day.

Sports were a big part of my experience, and being a multi-sport athlete helped build resilience, adaptability, and teamwork. I still remember the energy of pep rallies and the pride we all shared in being part of the Marana community. That sense of connection is what I miss most.
In 2003, I began what would become more than 21 years of service with the Marana Police Department. Over the course of my career, I served in the Traffic Unit, Training Unit, Criminal Investigations Unit, Office of Professional Standards, Field Services Division, and Support Services Division. One of the most meaningful moments was returning to Marana Middle School as a School Resource Officer. In 2023, I was honored to be appointed Police Chief for the Town of Marana, becoming the first homegrown law enforcement professional to reach this role. My wife Tammy and I have been proud to raise our three sons here in the Marana community.
Marana itself has changed tremendously over the years. What once felt like a small, rural town has grown into a thriving community of more than 65,000 people, with new schools, neighborhoods, and opportunities, while still maintaining its strong sense of identity.
What makes MUSD and Marana schools great today is their commitment to preparing students for real life, not just graduation. With a strong focus on academics, career readiness, and opportunities to explore different paths, students today have more resources than ever to build a successful future.
MUSD will always be a place I’m proud to call part of my story.
